King Lagazee announces 1st Edition of Jamaica x Ghana Link Up Festival for November 30th, headlined by Wendy Shay, Epixode, Ras Kuuku, Dillgin, Boss Champs, and MORE!

Come November 30th, 2024, all roads lead to Untamed Empire, off the Spintex Road, Adjacent Action Chapel, for this historic event hosted by King Lagazee!

Wendy Shay, Epixode, Ras Kuuku, Konkarah Jahvybz, Osagyefo, Aklerh will be headlining the gig for the Ghana side while Dillgin and Boss Champs will be defending the Jamaican side of the business for this maiden edition of the ‘Jamaica x Ghana LINK UP’ Festival.

This initiative is powered by Lagazee Sound International and Yaad Settingz on Asaase Radio 99.5. Kicking of at 5:00pm on the date, tickets are already out on sale with early bird tickets going for a cool GHC 100 (each).

Best of 2019: Dancehall / Jamaican tunes

In Jamaican music 2019 was the year of success for Koffee. “Toast” was an international hit and “Rapture” was huge as well. Here’s a list of 2019 Jamaican tunes that were the most relevant to me in 2019. I include “Toast” here because I didn’t include it in last year’s list. I also include Afro B’s “Shape Nice” because Vybz Kartel is on it, it is produced by Dre Skull and is basically a dancehall song. My number one non-Jamaican dancehall song would be “More Zessing (Zesser)” by Trinidad Ghost. The best African dancehall songs were probably songs by Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale, and the J. Born Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jnr, Shatta Wale, is one of the most talk-about celebrities in Ghana. Best of 2018: Ghana Music

Better late than never, here’s my end-of-year list of Ghanaian tunes I enjoyed playing in 2018. As I noted a year ago, there's a bunch of young artists who have been taking over the GH scene. The saddest moment of the year was when we lost one of them when Ebony died in a car crash in early February. May she rest in peace. I included her song ‘Hustle’ in this list because it came out in late 2017 and was played through the whole year 2018. Artists such as Kwesi Arthur, Kuami Eugene, KiDi and King Promise kept releasing great songs in 2018. Shatta Wale released a new album but at least here, the new releases didn’t reach the popularity of his 2017 songs such as ‘Ayoo’ and ‘Hosanna’ which stayed in rotation. One of the dopest releases that went unnoticed by most was Kuvie’s ‘Gruvie’ EP. The biggest GH song of the year was obviously ‘Akwaaba’ by Guiltybeatz, after it blew up every Afrobeats DJ was playing it. I introduced ‘Do The Dance’ by Eddie Khae and kept playing it at parties. ‘Kupe Dance’ by UK-based Ghanaian artist A-Star made it to playlists of other DJs too. One of the highlights of the year was having E.L perform his hit songs live at Afro Sunday in Helsinki on our winter season opening night on the 1st of October. Here is the 2017 list.
